In their collaboration, R&S and Qualcomm are demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed FR3 frequency range (7.125 GHz to 24.25 GHz) for future 6G wireless networks. The companies successfully verified the performance of Qualcomm’s 5G Mobile Test Platform (MTP) in a maximum throughput use case within the 13 GHz band, utilizing the R&S CMX500 one-box signaling tester (OBT). This validation highlights FR3’s potential to deliver high data rates by leveraging high modulation and coding schemes (MCS) and 4x4 MIMO technology to enhance capacity.
The test system is built around the CMX500 OBT, a future-ready, multi-technology, multi-channel signaling tester from R&S. Its versatility allows seamless adaptation to different NR parameter configurations, making it an ideal solution for FR3 research and development. During the demonstration, the CMX500 OBT was used to:
Create a signaling environment by transmitting FR3 cell signals in the 13 GHz band, simulating real-world scenarios.
Conduct comprehensive analysis to validate the device’s ability to achieve maximum throughput in the FR3 frequency range, ensuring reliable and efficient performance.
Christoph Pointner, Senior Vice President of Mobile Radio Testers at R&S, stated: “Our collaboration with Qualcomm showcases the power of joint innovation. Together, we are accelerating the development of future 6G technologies and pushing the boundaries of wireless communication.”
Tingfang Ji, Vice President of Engineering at Qualcomm, added: “We are excited to work with Rohde & Schwarz in shaping the future of mobile technology. By co-developing groundbreaking solutions, we are helping device manufacturers accelerate innovation in next-generation wireless communications, ultimately delivering a richer mobile experience for users worldwide.”
