On April 1, Microsoft announced it would invest $5.5 billion in Singapore to continue expanding its cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, with the investment period spanning from 2025 through the end of 2029.

Brad Smith, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President and President, stated that this funding will also support ongoing local operations, reflecting the company’s long-term confidence in Singapore as a global digital hub.

In addition to infrastructure investments, Microsoft is simultaneously expanding its Microsoft Elevate program in Singapore. According to the company, all university and college students in Singapore will receive 12 months of free access to Microsoft 365 Premium, which includes Copilot and tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. This initiative will benefit more than 200,000 students enrolled in universities and vocational education institutions.

In the education and public service sectors, Microsoft has also launched Microsoft Elevate for Educators and Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers, providing free AI training and professional development for teachers and nonprofit leaders, respectively. Microsoft stated that these initiatives aim to strengthen AI literacy, enhance cybersecurity and resilience, and promote trustworthy governance, enabling more Singaporeans to learn, work, and thrive in the AI economy.
